Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning defeated the Indonesian pair Rahayu/Siti 2-1 in the semifinals of the 2023 French Badminton Open, marking their sixth final appearance this season.
In the women’s doubles semifinals, Liu Shengshu/Tan Ning secured a hard-fought victory over the resilient Indonesian duo Rahayu/Siti. Throughout the tournament, the Chinese pair demonstrated exceptional form: they overcame top seeds Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan 2-1 in the round of 16, outlasted fifth-seeded Japanese pair Chiharu Shida/Nami Matsuyama in three games in the quarterfinals, and triumphed 2-1 against Rahayu/Siti in the semifinals. Both Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning, aged 19, have shown remarkable competitiveness since partnering earlier this year. They have already clinched three titles at the Spain Masters, U.S. Open, and Arctic Open, along with two silver medals at the Orléans Masters and Australian Open. Their consistent performances position them as future pillars of China’s women’s doubles badminton.
